A headless build is a platform decision, a design project and an engineering project at once, and it only pays back when all three are planned together. Our strategists, designers, Medusa developers, integration engineers and growth specialists work as one team, from the first decision on the platform to the store running day to day.
What we do on Medusa
When owning the platform pays back, and when it does not
Fast storefronts in Next.js, designed for your brand
Modules and workflows for the rules your business runs on
Trade accounts, quotes and approvals, or many sellers on one store
From Magento, WooCommerce or Shopify, with your rankings protected
eBay, Amazon, Linnworks, Xero and your ERP, on one set of numbers
Medusa Cloud or your own servers, watched and kept current
Pages Google reads as easily as any theme
Routine store work done by agents and approved by your team
The store run and improved month after month
On a hosted platform you rent the store. The platform decides what checkout can do, which apps you need for the rest, and what each of them costs every month. Medusa turns that round. It is open source, so the code runs on servers you choose and the store, the data and every line built for it belong to you. Medusa itself takes no fee from your sales.
Underneath, Medusa is a set of commerce modules (products, carts, orders, pricing, stock, customers) built in TypeScript on Node.js, with an admin your team uses every day and can be extended for your own work. Anything the business needs that Medusa does not do out of the box is built into the platform itself, never bolted on from outside.
Medusa is not for every store, and we say so in the audit. We build on Shopify and Magento as well, so the recommendation follows the business.
Medusa is the right base when:
Where a well-built Shopify store would do the job, that is what we recommend, with a headless build kept for the point where the business outgrows it.
See our Shopify workHeadless means the storefront your customers see is built on its own, apart from the platform that runs products, checkout and orders behind it. That gives the design complete freedom and the pages real speed, because nothing on them is there for a theme’s sake.
Our designers work from research into how your customers choose and buy, with desktop and phone designed together and signed off before the build. Our developers build the storefront in Next.js on Medusa’s storefront tools, with pages rendered on the server so they load fast and Google reads them in full.
This is where Medusa earns its place. Its workflows run each step of a process in order, retry a step that fails and roll back cleanly if the process cannot finish, so an order is never left half done.
Our developers build the logic your business depends on as modules and workflows inside Medusa, for jobs like:
For B2B we set up company accounts with several buyers each, quotes, spending limits and approval steps, so trade buyers order online on terms that match how they buy offline. For marketplaces we build stores where many sellers list their own products, take their own orders and see their own payouts, with you running the store above them. Both run on the same Medusa store as your retail customers when you need them to.
A move to Medusa, from Magento, WooCommerce or Shopify, is judged on what customers and Google notice: every product there, customers who can still sign in, and old links that land somewhere useful.
Every move follows the same five steps:
A Medusa store is built to be joined to everything else, and that is where most headless projects fall short. Orders from eBay and Amazon, stock in the warehouse system, money in the accounts: if the joins are an afterthought, a store with a beautiful front end still oversells and still loses orders.
With 50+ channel integrations behind us, we join Medusa to:
Every connection is watched, with an alert when one fails, and one system is in charge of each number.
Explore systems and integrationSee our Linnworks workOwning the platform means someone has to run it, and we do. We host on Medusa Cloud, Medusa’s own managed hosting, or on your own cloud account where you need it. Either way the store has a copy to test every change on, releases that go out without taking the store down, backups, and Medusa’s updates applied and tested before they reach your customers.
Headless stores have a reputation for losing search traffic, and it is earned when search is left until the end. We build it in from the start: pages rendered on the server, clean addresses, structured data on every product and category, redirects in place before launch, and speed measured on a phone. Our growth team then runs content, search and shopping ads, and email that brings customers back, as one plan from your own numbers.
Explore growth marketingMedusa is built to have agents working inside it, through its admin and its workflows. We put them to work on the routine jobs: product data written in your brand’s voice, stock and prices checked across your channels, problem orders flagged, and customer service replies drafted with the order already looked up. Your team’s time goes on the decisions.
No agent changes your store on its own. Every change is a dry run first, you approve it, the store is backed up before anything is applied, and every change is logged so it can be put back. Agents never delete.

A headless store needs a team behind it after launch, and through Managed eCommerce we are that team. A senior team runs the platform and the store month after month: updates, hosting, new features and fixes, alongside the trading work of products, promotions and listings, with a monthly report against agreed targets. One accountable lead knows the code, the store and the business behind them.

If a well-built theme does the job, stay on Shopify. Medusa is for businesses whose pricing, stock, B2B or marketplace needs have outgrown what a hosted platform can hold. We build on both, and the audit shows which side of the line you are on.
Medusa itself has no licence fee and takes nothing from your sales. The running costs are the hosting and the team that looks after the store, and the audit sets them out against what you pay for the platform and apps today.
No. We build the store and run it for you through Managed eCommerce, and the code is documented so your own team, or another, could take it on later.
Not when search is built in from the start. Pages are rendered on the server, every old link gets a redirect, and structured data goes on every product and category before launch.
Yes. We join Medusa to eBay, Amazon, Linnworks, Xero, your ERP and the rest of what the business runs on, then watch every connection.
You do. Medusa is open source, the code we build lives in your own repository, and the store and its data are yours.
They cannot act on their own. Every change is a dry run first, approved by you and backed up before it is applied, and agents never delete.
